Matchbook Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is fantastic for the price! This wine is full bodied and silky smooth, with aromas of chocolate, vanilla bean and bold barrel spice. A core of red raspberry and blueberry fruit flavors are framed by cedar, cocoa powder and pipe tobacco. The wine finishes with mouth-coating tannins and toasty oak. This is a smooth and elegant Cabernet that will pair nicely with a juicy steak or pasta in a rich Italian red sauce.

We are the only store in Canada to get any Amici Cellars wines!

ABOUT THE WINE: This 2016 Amici Cellars Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon highlights the lush, ripe fruit and Rutherford Dust of valley floor vineyards, along with the structure and ageability of Napa Valley’s best mountain appellations.

2016 VINTAGE: 2016 was another in a string of excellent vintages for Napa winemaking. Generous winter rains brought much-needed rainfall to saturate the root zones and replenish reservoirs. Moderate temperatures and bright sunshine enabled the vines to thrive throughout the spring and summer, creating a balanced, optimal growing pace. Warm days and cool nights during harvest season allowed ripening to progress at an even pace, resulting in wines that display complex fruit flavors and balanced acidity.

Undurraga T.H. Cabernet Sauvignon ~ SOLD OUT

The 2016 TH Cabernet Sauvignon is an incredible wine! It is from a tiny vineyard called “Cauquenes” which is 685 metres above sea level an the vines are 27 years old. What makes this vineyard special is the red clay soils on granite, and the Cabernet picks up both especially well. 2016 was a short vintage, about half the normal harvest, but the fruit was exceptional from this year and it really shows in this wine! The grapes were handpicked in the cool of night to preserve quality and rushed into the vineyard where they were hand sorted not once, but twice, before crushing. After fermentation, the wine was put into new French Oak for 16 months before bottling.

The result is a stunning single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanter Magazine named it the best of the best and gave it a Platinum award and a near perfect 97 point rating for the 2016! This wine’s roasted, savory bouquet contains blackberry, cinnamon, olive, earth and oak aromas. It hails from Pirque, one of Chile’s hotbeds for traditional Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is chewy and deep, with spicy black-fruit flavors and oak-derived notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Dark fruit and herbal touches flood the finish. This wine is great when it is open, better after a decant, and will easily cellar for 5 to 10 years! We opened a bottle last week and every single person who tried it bought some, or pre ordered it, so we knew that we had a winner on our hands. We are the first store in Alberta to be able to purchase this wine so we changed our pow this week just to feature it!
