Undurraga T.H. Cabernet Sauvignon ~ SOLD OUT

The 2016 TH Cabernet Sauvignon is an incredible wine! It is from a tiny vineyard called “Cauquenes” which is 685 metres above sea level an the vines are 27 years old. What makes this vineyard special is the red clay soils on granite, and the Cabernet picks up both especially well. 2016 was a short vintage, about half the normal harvest, but the fruit was exceptional from this year and it really shows in this wine! The grapes were handpicked in the cool of night to preserve quality and rushed into the vineyard where they were hand sorted not once, but twice, before crushing. After fermentation, the wine was put into new French Oak for 16 months before bottling.

The result is a stunning single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanter Magazine named it the best of the best and gave it a Platinum award and a near perfect 97 point rating for the 2016! This wine’s roasted, savory bouquet contains blackberry, cinnamon, olive, earth and oak aromas. It hails from Pirque, one of Chile’s hotbeds for traditional Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is chewy and deep, with spicy black-fruit flavors and oak-derived notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Dark fruit and herbal touches flood the finish. This wine is great when it is open, better after a decant, and will easily cellar for 5 to 10 years! We opened a bottle last week and every single person who tried it bought some, or pre ordered it, so we knew that we had a winner on our hands. We are the first store in Alberta to be able to purchase this wine so we changed our pow this week just to feature it!

Altos de Losada La Bienquerida

A very complex and deep-set wine from the outset. This shows a very impressive sense of purity, suggesting immaculate attention to detail in the vineyard. Dark stones and graphite with light, peppery nuances and a deep black-cherry core. The tannins are long, sleek and sexy, like crushed velvet. Long and fresh. Drink or hold.

Le Macchiole Paleo

Captivating aromatics, bright fruit and silky, ripe tannins give the 2014 Paleo Rosso much of its inviting personality. Arresting in its beauty, the 2014 is translucent, pretty and highly nuanced. The cold, late-maturing vintage did not allow for a super-concentrated style, so the winery followed the natural rhythm of the vintage, and to great effect. In other words, the estate got every ounce of potential out of the year. In 2014, Paleo Rosso is a touch slender, but it is also vivid and exquisitely beautiful. Readers should expect a perfumed Paleo Rosso built on grace rather than power. The 100% new French oak is impeccably balanced.

Montes Purple Angel

This is perhaps the greatest Purple Angel ever. Full body, tight and compressed with an amazing texture and density. Fantastic fine tannins that are silky and polished. I love the energy and intensity. A blend of 92% carmenere and 8% petit verdot. One for the cellar but I can’t wait to drink it again.
