Giusti Family Winery Massimo Cabernet / Merlot
At the Giusti family winery, all of the vineyards are named for the women in Joe’s family as that is the soul of the wine, and the wines are named for the men. Joe’s first grandson once asked at family dinner why there was no wine named for him and Joe could not come up with a good enough answer, and family being of the utmost importance to Joe, promised his grandson Massimo that a wine would be named for him. From the same vineyards that they make their flagship wine called Umberto (for Joe’s Grandfather) they made another Bordeaux blend but did not age it as long, intended to be enjoyed in it’s youth and the wine called “Massimo” was born!
The wine is crafted the old fashioned way, their winemaker Mirko does not believe in interfering with the wine, and it is made as naturally as possible, but with new techniques. The wine shows gorgeous dark fruit up front, think blackberries and plums, and hints of earth and spice form the underlying character of the wine. After at least a half hour decant, the wine opens up beautifully and is ready to be enjoyed – more of the lovely fruit up front, framed by hints of tannins and acidity and framed by a lovely earthiness. The wine has a long, delicious finish and is good on it’s own, but even better with food! We have successfully paired this wine with a huge variety of food, from pasta and pizza, to burgers and steaks, or even a charcuterie board and it always shines!!! This wine will easily last 5+ years in your cellar, but when it is this good right now, why wait???
